On 1922, Ernest Shackleton died unexpectedly from a heart attack at sea at the beginning of an Antarctic expedition.

His widow chose South Georgia, the island where Shackelton had arrived on the James Caird 7 years earlier, as his final resting place.

Shakelton’s Grave is located south of Grytviken, in the whaler’s cemetery.
