Description
Shark populations have declined dramatically worldwide over the last 20 years. Madagascar’s active shark fishery exploits shark rich waters of the Mozambique Channel in order to sell fins to Asian markets. With few regulations on this fishery, many sharks are caught by local fishermen in traditional boats. Blue Ventures Conservation is working with villages in the Morondava region to record the extent of the shark fishery and to increase awareness on the future sustainability of the fishery.
