Description

This is not your grandma’s drive-in, but rather an interesting and new float-on!

Located on the Nai Pi Lae lagoon off of Thailand’s Kudu Island, this was a temporary movie theater installed for the final screening night of the Film on the Rocks Yao Noi Festival.

Designed by Beijing-based architect Ole Scheeren and built in a modular fashion from recycled materials, the theater was dismantled and given to the local community to use as a playground and floating stage after the event.

If you could watch one film there what would it be? I think I would choose a classic, like Jaws or 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Hope to see this idea happen in other places.

I think The Beach would be appropriate

I’d love to go with “10,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, definitely. On a more modern tone, another ocean-themed favorite of mine is “White Squall”. But yeah, “The Beach” makes sense for the geographical connection too, of course.
