At the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California’s acclaimed destination, is Cypress Inn. The Carmel Boutique Inn embodies the Mediterranean charm of old Carmel — the living room is distinguished by its vaulted ceiling and welcomingfireplace, the courtyard by its beautiful landscaping, and the accommodations by their décor.

Rooms are finished in muted tones, several with fireplaces and beamed ceilings. The Cypress Inn welcomes not only its guests but their animal friends as well. Owners Doris Day and Dennis LeVett believe that pets are a part of the family. Well-behaved pets are allowed throughout the Inn and can join their humans in the courtyard for breakfast and evening appetizers.

It is always a treat to find a locals’ hangout in a popular tourist destination. The Cypress is just that…Locals show up with their pets in the early evening and have a drinks or a light dinner at the bar or in the main living room.

The Cypress Inn has a long and storied tradition in Carmel (full disclosure…I should know, I got married across the street at the “Church of the Wayfarer”. What a fitting name for a church near the ocean!) .
