Description
Fort Point is a unique surf spot in many ways. It is a challenging left hand point break that often begins directly under the Golden Gate Bridge. The waves wraps around the jagged rocks beneath the old fort. The views of downtown San Francisco and Alcatraz make it a scenic spot to catch waves, but beware as the regular surfers there do not take kindly to strangers. The wave itself can be very dangerous. Getting in and out of the water is feat in itself. Advanced and experienced surfers only. Fort Point needs a large West or Northwest swell to work and is usually best at low tide. A great spot for spectating.

First official surf contest at Fort Point recently happened. The Bum Rush Tour hold contest without any advanced notice. The judges show up at a popular break, blow a horn, and after twenty minutes crown a champion out of the surfers in the water. Local SF surfer Ragnar Johnson won a $1,000 for snagging a nice barrel.
