I have been a SCUBA diver since 1973 and have been working in the ocean technology industry since 1975. I am currently working at the University of Washington on the National Science Foundation’s Ocean Observing Initiative Regional Scale Nodes project – www.ooi.washington.edu. We have a funded $126M grant from NSF to install 800km of fiber optic cable off the WA & OR coast that will connect a network of seafloor observatories to the Internet over multiple 10Gb/s channels with up to 100kW.
